These labs constitute a supplementary laboratory component for introductory networking courses. They are designed for beginner-level Networking 101 classes and therefore assume no prior knowledge or prerequisites.

The initial labs provide a high level of instructional scaffolding, offering structured guidance to support foundational skill development. As students advance, the level of guidance is progressively reduced while expectations for independent problem-solving increase.

Starting with Lab 3.3 – Construct and Analyze a Multi-Arm Star Network, the degree of instructional support is adjusted based on content familiarity: newly introduced concepts receive greater guidance, whereas previously encountered concepts require greater learner independence.

Capstone Project
Building and Securing a Network from Start to Finish

In Challenge Mode, with minimal instructional support, students are required to:

Design a small to medium-sized business (SMB) network topology, correctly cable devices, configure IP addressing and default gateways, and verify both wired and wireless LAN as well as routed connectivity using ARP and ping. Students then implement security by segmenting traffic with VLANs, enabling inter-VLAN routing, deploying core services such as DHCP and DNS, and enforcing access controls using ACLs.

The project concludes with validation of outcomes (who can communicate with whom, by IP and by name) and systematic troubleshooting of failures using packet analysis and a layer-by-layer methodology.
